Pets to Hawaii: the quarantine clock starts now
Hawaii is rabies-free and intends to stay that way, so bringing a dog or cat means clearing the state's Animal Quarantine program. Done right and early, most military pets walk out of the airport the day they land. Done late, the fallback is quarantine at your expense — and "late" arrives faster than almost anyone expects.
The sequence, in order
Microchip first (the chip must precede the blood test), rabies vaccinations per the state's two-vaccine rules, the OIE-FAVN antibody blood test processed through an approved lab, then the mandatory waiting period that begins only after a passing result reaches the program — followed by health certificate, documents, and fees submitted ahead of arrival for Direct Airport Release. Each step gates the next; the calendar math is why this page says "the week orders drop" and means it.
